Litter 'doggy bags' scoop praise

Many people in Hatton say the contents - including scoopers and leaflets - have made a big improvement to the problem of dog fouling in the area.

Hatton Area Residents Association funded the scheme with money awarded to honour a previous project's success.

Association member Tony Beacom told the BBC Scotland's news website: "These doggy bags have been a great success."

'Quirky idea'

Mr Beacom said: "We needed something different to try and people were coming to us complaining about the dog mess. We put our heads together and came up with the doggy bag idea.

"The bags contained scoopers, literature, badges and biscuits, raising awareness and getting people into the habit.

"I love dogs and this was a quirky idea which has gone really well."

The bags were handed out to dozens of dog owners at a village gala day.

Mr Beacom said the association had since been approached by people congratulating it on the difference the idea had made.
