Firms sought for floods project

Firms have been invited to bid for work constructing the first two phases of a £10m flood prevention scheme on the River Ness.

The Highland Council project will be built in phases over five years.

The aim is to divert flood water from the south side of Inverness away from homes in Hilton, Lochardil and Holm.

Archaeological investigations along the route from Loch Ness Golf Course, Slackbuie, to the River Ness at Holm Mains have been completed.

Further work to check for any historical relics or sites will start from Monday.

The first phase of construction will start at the confluence of Holm Burn and the River Ness to Dores Road Bridge.

Work includes increasing the flood capacity of Holm Burn.

Phase two will begin at Dores Road Bridge and stop at what is known as the Culduthel Channel.
