Police searching for a Merchant Navy cadet who went missing on Boxing Day are to review the evidence gathered so far on his disappearance.

Simon MacMillan, 21, from South Uist, remains unaccounted for despite extensive searches by emergency services and the public.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency have made a sweep of the search area from the air.

Mr MacMillan had been at a Christmas Day dance prior to going missing.

Police requested the aerial search, which was made on Monday.

Chief Inspector Philip MacRae, of Northern Constabulary, said: "We will also be taking a further look, in detail, at all the evidence which has been gathered in the attempt to ascertain Simon's movements on that night."
