Burst pipes close primary schools

Fifteen primary schools in the Highlands have had to close completely, or partially, as a result of problems caused by sub-zero temperatures.

Highland Council said the schools were affected by burst pipes, or problems with the buildings' heating.

Lochinver Primary School was flooded after pipes burst.

Education director Hugh Fraser said guidance was issued prior to the Christmas break asking staff to take precautions to protect schools.
