Butchers on the Western Isles are seeking legal protection for Stornoway black pudding.
The isles' recipe is different from others because it uses oatmeal and its makers want its name protected against imitations.
Labour's Highlands and Islands MSP Peter Peacock is backing their call.
Butcher Iain MacLeod said the Hebridean product was made to a high quality and was popular with celebrity chefs and restaurants.
The move could see the pudding join champagne in having the protection.
