Former teacher on abuse charges

A former teacher has appeared in court on 18 charges relating to the sexual abuse of children in different parts of Scotland between 1967 and 1983.

Colin Macdonald, 61, from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, is accused of abusing children from the deaf community in the Highlands and Islands and in Glasgow.

Mr Macdonald, who is originally from the west of Scotland, denies all the charges against him.

His trial at Kilmarnock High Court is expected to last up to 10 weeks.
