Debates on return of wild animals

Captive lynx

A conference on reintroducing animals and birds once native to the British Isles is to be held in Moray.

Wildland Network and charity Trees for Life will host Wild, free and coming back? in Findhorn, Forres in September.

Workshops will be held on lynx, beaver and birds and field trips made to Glen Affric in the Highlands and Carrifran in the Scottish Borders.

Dan Puplett, of Trees for Life, said he hoped those opposed to reintroductions would also attend.

He said the plan was to use the conference as a platform for open discussion on bringing back wild animals driven to extinction in Britain.

The conference comes as plans are stepped up to reintroduce beavers to Scotland by 2009.

Wolves and Humans Foundation has also called for a "serious debate" on wolves returning to Scotland.
