World gathering role for teenager

An 18-year-old from the Highlands has been appointed as one of two UK youth ambassadors to attend a major meeting of world leaders in Egypt.

Highland Youth Convener, Gillian Slider, of Ullapool, will join Kristen Neilson, 24, from Glasgow, in Sharm el Sheikh on Thursday.

US President George W Bush will be among the 12 heads of state at the World Economic Forum.

Ms Slider said she had been shocked, but honoured to be going.
