Highland figures receive honours

The Highlands and Islands' deputy chief fire officer is one of several figures in the area to have been recognised in the New Year Honours list.

Tony Wood, who received the Queen's Fire Service Medal, took up the post in May 2006, after working for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service.

Lorna Lumsden has become an MBE for her work with Wester Ross conservation charity, the Applecross Trust.

Ms Lumsden, of Abriachan near Inverness was a trust administrator for 18 years.

Also appointed an MBE was Ann McKerracher, for her services to older people and the community of Tong, on Lewis in the Western Isles.
