Authority to build new care homes
Highland Council has agreed to build five new residential care homes for the elderly.
The decision brings to an end a tendering process for care home provision by the private sector started by the previous administration.
Moves towards privatisations sparked protests outside the council's headquarters last year.
The new Independent/SNP administration said construction of the new homes will not affect other council services.
