Accused 'had bloodsoaked clothes'

Police road block

Clothing which was "saturated" in blood was seized from a man and his girlfriend who are accused of murdering her mother, a court has heard.

Lisa Brown and John Wilson had earlier been detained following the discovery of Anne Brown's remains in Ayrshire.

The High Court in Glasgow heard police interview recordings in which Mr Wilson could not explain the bloodstains.

The pair deny murder and attempting to defeat the ends of justice by disposing of the 51-year-old former nurse's body.

In the police interview, Det Sgt Alexander Nelson suggested to Mr Wilson that he was "blindly defending" his girlfriend, who had been in a dispute with her mother over a child they cared for.

Det Sgt Nelson put it to him: "She is not a nice person. You are scared of her and did what she told you."

Mr Wilson replied: "No, I didn't."

The officer later asked Mr Wilson how he thought Anne Brown had died.

He replied: "We only know what we read on the TV and the newspapers. I don't know, I thought that she had just gone walkabout."

The 25-year old was asked to explain why blood was found on clothes worn by the pair.

The detective added: "The forensics said that the blood is saturated."

Mr Wilson replied: "I don't know. I cannot explain that."

Anne Brown's body was found in Clerkland Burn in North Ayrshire last October.

The trial, before Judge Lord Matthews, continues.
