Nurse in boot home from hospital

Magdeline Makola

A nurse who was found locked in the boot of her car in North Lanarkshire after being missing for 11 days has been released from hospital.

Magdeline Makola, 38, who works at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, was discovered in Airdrie on Boxing Day.

Police said she had now been discharged after spending almost a fortnight in Monklands hospital, Airdrie, and was continuing her recuperation.

A 35-year-old man has been charged with attempting to murder Ms Makola.

The South African-born nurse, who lives in Livingston, was discovered by police officers in the boot of her Vauxhall Astra, dehydrated and suffering from hypothermia.

Colleagues of Ms Makola, who works in heart medicine, first raised the alarm after she failed to turn up for work on 18 December, although she had not been seen since Monday 15 December.

Sifiso Justice Ngema, 35, who is originally from South Africa but had been living in Airdrie, appeared at Linlithgow Sheriff Court charged with attempted murder earlier this week.

He made no plea and no declaration, was committed for trial and remanded in custody.
