Boxer released early from prison

Scott Harrison

Former world boxing champion Scott Harrison has been released early from prison.

The 31-year-old was freed from Barlinnie in Glasgow after serving four months behind bars.

He was jailed earlier this year for a total of 10 months on a series of charges, including drink driving and assaulting his girlfriend.

His prison term was reduced by two months on appeal and he was released after serving half his sentence.

He emerged from the main gate of the prison at about 0800 GMT, dressed in a grey suit and white shirt and carrying a plastic bag with his belongings.

Drink driving

He refused to comment but gave a thumbs up sign as he was driven away in a red taxi.

The boxer was imprisoned on 2 September for two months for assaulting his pregnant girlfriend Stacey Gardner, 26, and a police officer.

He was given an additional four months for drink driving and two months for breaking a night time curfew, a condition of bail while drink driving.

The following week he was sentenced to two more months behind bars after he admitted punching a stranger in the face on a night out.
