OAP dies after being hit by van

Police have named a pensioner who died after being hit by a van in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, on Monday.

Philip Taylor, 78, from the New Stevenston area, was knocked down by a Citroen Berlingo in Coronation Road at about 1250 GMT.

He was taken to Wishaw General hospital but died a short time later.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested following the incident and a report has been submitted to the procurator fiscal.
