Two hunted over abduction attempt

Police have launched a hunt for two men who tried to abduct a 12-year-old girl from a town street.

The pair were sitting in a silver car when one man grabbed the girl's wrist and tried to entice her into the vehicle as she walked past.

The incident happened on Woodlands Avenue, Irvine in Ayrshire on Sunday, 30 November.

Police said the the girl managed to break free and ran home unharmed, though she was left badly shaken.

It is believed the suspects drove off in the direction off Bank Street.

The incident was reported to Strathclyde Police on Monday. Officers have now appealed for witnesses to contact them as a matter of urgency.

'Yell and tell'

Det Insp John Hogg said: "Child protection is a very high priority for Strathclyde Police and I would like to reassure the public that everything possible is being done to trace whoever is responsible for this incident.

"I would also remind parents to stress to their children the importance of never going off with strangers.

"Children should be reminded that if they are approached by strangers they should run, yell and tell another adult what has happened.

"We will be working closely with local schools and the education department of the local authority to raise awareness with children. "

The driver of the vehicle is believed to be white, between 20 and 30 years old with blond hair. he passenger spoke with a local accent.
