Actors honoured by arts academy

James McAvoy and Lord Attenborough

One of Scotland's most famous actors is to be honoured by the institution where he learned his craft.

The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama will award the Atonement star James McAvoy a fellowship during its graduation ceremony later this month.

It will also give an honorary degree to veteran actor, producer and director Richard Attenbourough.

During his visit on 20 November, Lord Attenborough will run a "masterclass" for staff and students.

Principal John Wallace said: "The academy is an extraordinary melting pot of Scottish talent and a prolific contributor to contemporary British identity.

"We are delighted that one of the most powerful architects of British industry, Lord Attenborough, will come to work with our students and we are saluting his contribution to our culture, society and economy by awarding him an Honorary Doctorate of Drama."
