Museum stung by temporary closure

A Glasgow museum was forced to close its top floor to visitors for almost a fortnight because of a wasp invasion.

Experts were called in to deal with the infestation at the People's Palace on Glasgow Green after two members of staff were stung.

The top floor, home to Billy Connelly's famous banana boots, was closed on 16 October and reopened at the weekend.

Staff said they had swept up hundreds of the dead insects. No visitors are thought to have been stung.

Cold weather

A spokesman for Culture and Sport Glasgow, who run the museum, said: "The safety of our staff and the public is always our priority.

"At the first sign of the infestation we called in experts and thanks to the action they took and the cold weather we were able to resolve the problem."

He added: "We are delighted that the People's Palace is now fully reopened to the public."
