Power cut hits rush-hour subway

Underground train services in Glasgow are back to normal following a major power fault which caused disruption to rush-hour commuters.

Glasgow subway services were severely affected, as well as some shops around the Buchanan Street area.

Engineers worked through the night to restore supplies but there were also flooding problems in some stations.

Shuttle buses and extra trains were put on to try and cope with the influx of commuters.

A Scottish Power spokeswoman said: "We had a cable fault around the Buchanan Street area. Roughly 190 customers were affected at the top end of the street and Dundas Street.

"They were off supply for around 30 minutes but Buchanan Street underground was affected for longer as we needed to get in to repair the cable fault.

"We apologise for the inconvenience."

David Wallace, director of subway services at SPT, said: "We have to apologise to our passengers for the disruption but it has been caused by power failures beyond our control."
