Funeral for former Lord Provost

A funeral mass has been held for former Lord provost of Glasgow, Robert Gray, who died last week.

The service took place at Our Lady of Perpetual Succour Church in the city's Broomhill area.

Mr Gray, who was awarded a papal knighthood, was 80-years-old when he passed away at Gartnavel Hospital.

He was elected as the Labour member for the Wyndford Ward in 1975 and served as lord provost between 1984 and 1988. He leaves behind a wife and daughter.

Glasgow's current lord provost, Bob Winter, said: "I was sorry to learn of the passing of Glasgow's former lord provost, Councillor Robert Gray.

"He filled those roles with distinction and served the city well. He was a great ambassador for Glasgow and signed our twinning agreements with Nuremberg, Rostov on Don and Dalian."
