Electric cars for flat residents

An electric car share scheme has been launched for residents of a group of multi-storey flats in Clydebank.

Three "eCars" will be available to Radnor Park residents for £5 a day, and will cost less than 2p per mile to run.

Clydebank Housing Association (CHA) said the cars would run on excess power generated from its own power station, which provides heating for the flats.

The scheme was set up following residents' concerns over a lack of parking and the costs of keeping a car.

Fiona Webster, CHA director, said eCars combined with the combined heat and power heating system, made Radnor Park one of the most environmentally sustainable communities in Britain.

"These cars are ideal for shopping trips and great fun to drive," she said.

"We hope residents will enjoy using these cars, knowing that they are doing their bit to protect the environment and at the same time, avoiding the rising costs of petrol and road tax."

The scheme, said to be the first of its kind in Scotland, has been funded with a £37,000 Community Scotland grant.
