Clyde dolphin spotted by tourists

A wounded dolphin which it was feared would not survive after it was spotted in the River Clyde in Glasgow has been seen alive, experts have said.

Hopes had faded for the injured mammal after it was last seen heading west.

But marine experts confirmed the 10ft-long Risso's dolphin had been spotted by tourists on a boat off the Kintyre Peninsula near Campbeltown.

Tony Woodley of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue said he was still "gravely concerned" for the dolphin.

He said: "The dolphin was seen just about 3.30pm on Thursday.

"We have seen the photos and are sure it is the same one.

"It is in deeper waters but we are still gravely concerned because it is in poor condition and is solitary, whereas it is used to being in a group.

"We are still appealing to the public to let us know if they see it."

The dolphin was first spotted in the River Clyde in Glasgow on Sunday.

BDMLR searches for the creature were carried out following a number of sightings but later stood down.
