A man has been jailed for five years over a bungled armed robbery attempt at a post office in Inverclyde.
Michael Glancy, 47, from Port Glasgow, pleaded guilty to threatening staff at Inverkip post office with a fake gun, in October last year.
The High Court in Edinburgh heard how he had driven his own car to the town and parked it below two CCTV cameras.
Glancy was caught after being filmed preparing for the raid and returning to his car empty-handed.
Judge Roger Craik QC said: "You have admitted a serious offence of attempting to rob a post office armed with an imitation firearm.
"What you did was to cause the proprietors, particularly the lady who you threatened with the firearm, extreme fear and alarm."
He said Glancy had a bad criminal record and had been assessed as posing a high risk of causing harm if he reoffended.
Judge Craik also ordered that Glancy be kept under supervision for a further three years on release.
