Murder accused appears in court

A 20-year-old man has been charged with murdering a teenage woman after a disturbance at a house in Ayr.

Stuart McDonald appeared at the town's Sheriff Court accused of the murder of Laura Thomson, 18, following the incident early on Sunday.

McDonald, of Ferguson Street, also faces five other charges, including one of assault, three of assault to severe injury and one of possessing cocaine.

He made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

Ms Thomson, of Burnbank Road, Ayr, was taken to hospital with serious injuries after the disturbance in Ferguson Street at about 0125 BST but died a short time later.
