Drivers parked with engines running outside nursery and primary schools are being warned they are breaking the law.
It comes as Glasgow City Council steps up efforts to curb emissions and fine motorists who ignore the regulations.
Enforcement officers started issuing £20 fixed penalty fines in November 2005 and a new campaign will target problem areas, mainly outside schools.
The council said that despite 350 signs put up outside schools last year, engines are still being left running.
The campaign coincides with the launch of an advertising campaign - Kill the fumes. Let them breathe.
'Future generations'
Councillor Ruth Simpson, executive member for Land and Environmental Services, said there were serious consequences of failing to cut vehicle emissions.
She said: "By simply switching off your engine when parked outside a school you will immediately help improve our city's air quality and make a tangible difference for future generations."
Meanwhile, the council is consulting on possible parking restriction zones in parts of the west end and southside of the city.
About 38,000 homes and businesses are being sent letters asking them to vote on options for parking in their area.
It covers a large part of the west end and areas in the south around Battlefield.
If backed, metered zones would see resident permits costing in the region of £50, but the council stressed it was up to locals to choose the option they want.
The public consultation will run until about the end of April.
