Passenger killed in car accident

A woman has been killed and a man seriously injured in a road crash in Prestwick, Ayrshire.

They were travelling south on the A77 at about 1320 GMT when their car hit a parked vehicle in a lay-by near the Sandyford Toll roundabout.

The passenger, Catherine Foster, 63, from Troon, died at the scene.

The 66-year-old driver received a head injury and was taken to Ayr hospital before being transferred to the Southern General Hospital.

Strathclyde Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
