School closed after toy gun find

Blairtummock primary school was temporarily closed
Blairtummock primary school Police closed a primary school after a number of toy guns which fired plastic pellets were found in a gym cupboard.

Officers were called to Blairtummock primary in Easterhouse, Glasgow, by the school's headteacher at about 1145 GMT on Friday.

They found clothing, understood to have included a balaclavas.

Councillor Gordon Matheson said: "There was no panic at any stage and the children responded extremely well in doing what was asked of them."

Mr Matheson said the headteacher acted "entirely appropriately" in calling the police.

"Whilst at no time was there any threat or risk to the safety of the children and staff within the school, it was suggested by the police that children may be better leaving the premises," he said.
