A man has died and four others have been injured in a crash on one of Scotland's busiest motorways.
Qiqin Lin, 28, of Falconer Rise, Livingston, was killed on the M8 near Harthill at about noon on Saturday.
Police said the van appeared to lose control before colliding with two cars travelling in the opposite direction.
An eight-year-old girl and a boy aged 13 are seriously injured in hospital. Two other passengers in the same car were also injured.
A 71-year-old woman, who was driving the car, and a 43-year-old woman, who was a front seat passenger, are being treated for shoulder injuries.
'Lost control'
The driver of the third vehicle involved was uninjured but badly shaken, police said.
The M8 between junctions four and five was closed for several hours on Saturday causing lengthy tailbacks.
A Strathclyde Police spokeswoman said: "A 28-year-old man was driving his Mercedes van eastbound on the M8 near to junction 5, Harthill, when it appears that the vehicle lost control and collided with a Hyundai car being driven westbound by a 71-year-old woman and a Renault car also being driven westbound, by a man.
"Emergency services attended but the 28-year-old driver of the van died at the scene."
