Teenage jogger raped in village

A teenage schoolgirl has been raped in a North Lanarkshire village, police have said.

The 15-year-old was jogging along Main Street in Banton, near Kilsyth, at about 2100 GMT on Tuesday when a man approached her.

Strathclyde Police said he forced the teenager into a nearby field and indecently assaulted her before she managed to break free and run home.

The attacker was in his late 20s, 5ft 10in tall and was wearing jeans.

Police said they wanted to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time.
