Boy-murder accused dies on remand

Darren Pyper A man who was accused of murdering a teenager in a seaside town has died while on remand.

Darren Pyper, 14, was allegedly stabbed to death at a friend's house in Gourock, Inverclyde, in September.

Three other people were injured during the disturbance at a home in the town's Albert Road.

William Brown, 64, from Gourock, was charged with Darren's murder. It is believed he died of heart failure while in custody in HM Prison Greenock.

He was remanded in custody after appearing at Greenock Sheriff Court on 4 October.

A Scottish Prison Service spokesman confirmed that a prisoner died in hospital at approximately 0730 GMT on Friday.

He added: "Police have been informed and a Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course."
