Gay snub crew 'appeals rejected'

Fire safety leaflets - generic An appeal by three firefighters and a crew manager disciplined for refusing to offer safety advice during a gay pride march has been rejected.

Deputy Chief Officer Eileen Baird upheld the decision to issue a written warning to the crew.

However, Mrs Baird decided a watch manager should not be demoted. He will receive a final written warning and be transferred out of Cowcaddens, Glasgow.

The crew refused to perform duties at the event in George Square in June.

A further four crew members of Strathclyde Fire and Rescue who were issued with written warnings did not choose to appeal.
