Masked man holds up betting shop

A knifeman wearing a black "ghoulish" mask who robbed a betting shop in Edinburgh is being sought by police.

Police said CCTV footage shows the man holding up the Ladbrokes branch in Kingsknowe Road North in the city's Longstone area at 2115 GMT on Tuesday.

He brandished a knife at two members of staff before fleeing with a three-figure sum of cash in the direction of Longstone Inn pub.

He is 6ft, of slim build, with a local accent. He was wearing a black top.

The thief had the hood of the black top up and he was wearing a mask.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "While they weren't injured, the two shop assistants were left understandably shaken, and we are keen for any information that can assist our inquiries.

"Anyone who was in the area at around the time the robbery took place, who noticed anyone acting suspiciously, should contact police immediately.

"Similarly, anyone who recognises the description of the suspect, or who has any information regarding his identity, should also get in touch."
