Mother makes plea over show rape

Highland Show/Pic: Lothian and Borders Police

The mother of a teenage girl who was raped at the Royal Highland Show in Ingliston has urged the attacker to hand himself in.

The 17-year-old was raped near portable toilets between the east caravan park and a marquee where a Young Farmers Ball was taking place.

The incident happened between 0030 BST and 0100 BST on Saturday.

The girl's mother, who is from the Grampian area, said her family was devastated at what had happened.

"My daughter is trying to put this awful experience behind her, and as a family we are trying to live life as normal in what is a very abnormal situation," she said.

"I would also appeal to the person who carried out this crime against my daughter to hand himself in to police at the earliest opportunity"

Victim's mother

"We are all devastated, but we are strong, and we are pulling together as a family to support each other and get through this.

"We are determined to help the police catch the person who did this to my daughter, because if he isn't caught he could do it again."

The girl's mother asked for anyone with information to come forward and also urged anyone who was at the ball and took photographs of the event to e-mail them to police.

She also made a direct plea to her daughter's attacker.

"At this time I would also appeal to the person who carried out this crime against my daughter to hand himself in to police at the earliest opportunity," she said.

Bush hat

Anyone with information or photographs of the ball should e-mail them to highlandshow@lbp.pnn.police.uk

The suspect was described as being white, in his mid-to-late 20s, of stocky build, and between 5ft 9ins and 5ft 10ins tall.

He was unshaven with short brown hair, described as being in a gelled, messy style, and had a small nose.

He was wearing light blue jeans and a dark blue rugby-style shirt with yellow letters on the back.

It is thought he was at the ball in the company of a group of young men, one of whom had on a Australian-style bush hat, and was wearing blue jeans and a red top, with white lettering.
