Sir Chris given honorary degree

Olympic gold medallist Chris Hoy is to receive an honorary degree from one of his former universities.

The cyclist studied maths and physics at St Andrews from 1994-1996 and during his time there picked up a Sportsman of the Year award.

Since then, the 33-year-old has gone on to win four Olympic gold medals, been named BBC Sports Personality of the Year and knighted by the Queen.

Sir Chris will be made a Doctor of Science on 26 June.

He said: "I'm delighted to be awarded with an honorary degree from St Andrews. It's a real privilege and a huge honour.

"I've got some great memories from my time there as a student and it'll be good to be back."
