An electronics company is planning to make more than 15% of its workforce at its West Lothian site redundant.
Jabil Circuits, which employs about 450 people at Livingston's Oakbank business park, is proposing to make 79 employees redundant.
West Lothian Council plans to seek talks over the job losses.
"Unfortunately, this is another disappointing jobs setback for West Lothian," said Martyn Day, West Lothian Council development leader.
He added: "I understand the company are taking this action due to the general economic environment and its associated impact on customers' order books.
"We will be seeking a meeting with the company to discuss the situation. We will also be working with our partners to provide support, advice and assistance to employees at this difficult time."
A Jabil spokeswoman said changing market demand and the current business environment meant it had to cut jobs in Livingston.
She said: "Jabil is proposing to make redundant 79 employees across all functions, and is starting the formal consultation process with employee representatives.
"This proposal is based on business conditions and is not a reflection of the hard work, dedication and commitment of our Livingston employees."
