A man who was found dead in his home in Fife on Thursday suffered a "horrific ordeal" before his death, police said.
A murder investigation has now been launched into the death of Mark White at his home in Glenrothes.
Fife Constabulary said the 31-year-old's body might have been in his home for some days.
Det Supt Alistair McKeen said that Mr White was "a harmless young man, who despite his learning difficulties, led an independent, happy life".
He added: "He was an avid collector of DVD's, and a well-known face at Glenrothes Snooker Club.
"We remain keen to talk to anyone who may have seen Mark in the past two weeks, but in particular between Wednesday 19 and Monday 24 November.
"We would especially like to hear from any taxi drivers who may have taken hires to or from Altyre Avenue over that weekend, as well as any local residents who may have seen or spoken to any person in Altyre Avenue over that same period."
