Thousands expected at Fife show

Thousands of people are expected to arrive at Fife's biggest agricultural show, organisers have said.

The Fife Show will be held on Saturday in a field on the north-west outskirts of Cupar. It is the fourth year the event has been held in the town.

Organisers said the show in previous years has attracted about 7,000 visitors. Good weather is expected to increase that number this year.

Traditional livestock shows and tractor pulling will feature.

Wide appeal

The event has been aimed at people from both non-agricultural backgrounds and farmers.

Show secretary Louise Roger told the BBC Scotland news website: "We have designed the show to allow people to get close to the animals.

"The livestock includes cattle, sheep and poultry. There is even a bring-your-own pet competition."

Trade stands are expected to be busy with the industry experiencing something of an upturn in fortunes in the last 12 months.

Financial experts will be offering advice to farmers on the Scottish Government's new Whole Farm Review Scheme.

Mark Wilken, from EQ chartered accountants, said: "The farmers involved have found the report to be an invaluable tool in accessing their current and future operations, and helped them to see clearly how best to take their business forward.

"The changes being introduced will enhance the ability of a review under the WFRS to explore all relevant areas of a farming business, whether operational, financial, taxation or succession issues."
