Tributes paid to stabbed children

Ryan and Michelle Thomson

A mother whose two children were found stabbed to death has paid tribute, describing them both as beautiful.

Her comments were made in a statement issued through police to coincide with the funerals of Michelle Thomson, 25, and her seven-year-old brother Ryan.

The pair, who were found at Muiredge Cottages in Buckhaven, Fife, were laid to rest at Kirkcaldy Crematorium.

Their father, 49-year-old Robert Thomson, has been charged with repeatedly stabbing and murdering them.

He appeared at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on 6 May and has been remanded in custody.

Michelle and Ryan's mother, June Thomson said: "Both were really innocent, beautiful, lovely children. They were both full of goodness and their loss will leave a huge gap in the lives of everyone who knew them".

Typical boy

Minister Wilma Cairns, who conducted the service, said: "Both children, Ryan and Michelle brought a lot of fun and laughter to the family.

"Ryan was a typical wee boy, a live-wire, always running about doing things at top speed. Michelle was a bright and bubbly happy girl who loved sparkly colours and chocolate".

Mr Thomson spent two nights at the Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline after his children were discovered at about 1900 BST on 3 May.

Extra officers were placed on the beat in Buckhaven to reassure residents.
