Decision deferred over travellers

Building work on the site

Councillors have deferred a decision on whether to grant planning permission to a travellers' site in north east Fife.

The Fordelhill Farm site, near Leuchars, has already been built despite legal attempts to halt work.

Two of the site's occupants were previously fined at Cupar Sheriff Court for breaching an interim interdict ordering them to stop building.

Officers at Fife Council recommended the site be approved but members chose to await an environmental report.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency has indicated that the site might pose a flooding risk.

A range of objections to the facility have been lodged from community councils in Balmullo, Newport and Wormit.

The travellers have argued that they had no choice about moving to the site because no other spaces were available.
