Museum to return Aborigine skulls

The skulls of six Aborigines which have been kept in the National Museum of Scotland for more 100 years are to be returned to the Australian Government.

It follows an agreement to return a Tasmanian skull to Australia and human remains to the National Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa Tongarewa.

The six remains were given to National Museums Scotland in the 19th Century by collectors.

The remains will initially be returned to the National Museum of Australia.

The Australian Government then hopes to find the community they originated from.

All of the remains, which are currently in Scotland, will be returned to Australia and New Zealand within the next few months, on a date to suit the recipient parties.
