Police crack down at trouble spot

Extra officers have been put on patrol in the area in the last month following waves of anti-social behaviour.

Fife Constabulary said 27 people were arrested during the campaign for offences including assault, breach of the peace and having offensive weapons.

Stop and search powers were used on 347 people during the month and 40 litres of alcohol were seized by officers.

Eight fixed-penalty tickets were issued for anti-social behaviour and six offensive weapons were seized.

'Strong message'

Police officers also carried out spot-checks on 44 licensed premises to make sure they were not selling alcohol to minors.

Ch Insp Andy Morris said: "The action currently undertaken by my staff and I should send a strong message to those intent on causing or being involved in anti-social behaviour that you will be arrested and prosecuted.

"This should also send a reassuring message to the general public that we are addressing the concerns of local communities and using every piece of legislation we can to achieve that."

In the final week of the month-long crackdown, two teenage boys were reported for a range of offences including two incidents of fire-raising and the theft of 13 wheelie bins.

Local councillor David Alexander said: "Not only is more crime being solved, those responsible for anti-social behaviour are being detected in increasing numbers.

"This is fantastic stuff and can only get better if we listen and act on what the police ask us to do."

Several projects have been introduced in the Levenmouth area to try to keep young people off the streets.

One of the most popular is the alcohol-free 'blue light disco' which is staged at a different location each week.
