Motorists urged to reclaim tolls

Up to £300,000 of refunds have still to be claimed on books of tickets which are now not needed to cross the bridge.

Drivers are being urged to claim before the deadline on 9 May.

Scrapping the tolls was an SNP commitment during the 2007 Scottish elections. Legislation to remove the fee was given royal assent in January.

It means Scotland now has no chargeable roads.

Glove compartments

Gillian Laurie, office manager at the Forth Estuary Transport Authority (Feta), said: "I'd encourage anyone with old toll vouchers to come forward before the deadline on 9 May and claim the refund that is due to them.

"It's worth checking through glove compartments and drawers to see if you have any old vouchers lying around, as refunds are available on individual toll vouchers as well as complete books."

Feta convener Tony Martin said: "The operation to process refunds has gone very smoothly to date, thanks to the preparation and organisation of Feta's administration team.

"The team has already processed almost twice the total refunded after tolls were abolished on the Erskine Bridge, but we know there are still a significant number of vouchers out there and customers are entitled to a refund."
