Cardinal makes show of solidarity

Cardinal Keith O'Brien Scotland's leading Catholic has visited a mosque in a show of inter-faith solidarity.

Cardinal Keith O'Brien dropped into Annandale Street Mosque in Edinburgh on Sunday.

The visit was part of a series of events marking Edinburgh Inter-Faith Week.

Accompanying the cardinal was Kwik Fit founder Sir Tom Farmer, who is a keen supporter of inter-faith work in the city.

Cardinal O'Brien said: "I have been deeply privileged to have visited a number of mosques and met many Muslim friends."

Chairman of Annandale Street Mosque, Mohammed Aslam, said he was delighted with the cardinal's visit.

He added: "We are committed to building peace and harmony locally and globally and to inter-faith dialogue, understanding and relationship among the faith communities.

"The cardinal's visit gives us the opportunity to further develop our relations with our Christian neighbours."

Inter-Faith Week took place between 25 November and 2 December.
