Attack on teenager was murder bid

An attack on a teenager in North Lanarkshire is being treated as attempted murder, police said.

The 18-year-old suffered serious injuries in the assault on Glenacre Road in Cumbernauld at about 1845 BST on Friday.

The victim was taken to Monklands Hospital where he was said to be in a "stable" condition.

Police said inquiries were at an early stage and they did not have any description of the suspects.

Det Sgt Stuart McLellan from Cumbernauld CID appealed for witnesses to help move the inquiry forward.

He said: "Inquiries are at an early stage, however I am keen to hear from anyone who was in the area of Glenacre Road last night around the time of the incident and who may have seen or heard a disturbance take place to come forward."
