A man who crashed a stolen car while being chased by police in Greenock has died as a result of his injuries.
Stephen Diffin, 23, was driving a Toyota Celica at about 0410 on Saturday 11 October when he apparently lost control and hit a wall on Baker Street.
Strathclyde Police said the car had been stolen from the Gourock area and was being followed at a safe distance by a marked police car.
Lothian and Borders Police will oversee the inquiry into the incident.
Mr Diffin was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital in Greenock following the crash and was transferred to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow.
There were no other occupants in the car.
The police car had emergency blue lights and klaxon in operation.
Witnesses are asked to contact the police at Greenock.
