Newsreader Robertson leaves BBC

David Roberston

BBC Scotland newsreader David Robertson has left its flagship TV news programme after 20 years at the corporation.

The news anchor, who presented Reporting Scotland for eight years, made the announcement live on air after the programme at 1830 BST on Friday.

He told viewers: "It's my final programme. It has been a privilege."

A spokesman for BBC Scotland said Mr Robertson was leaving due to restructuring, adding that the programme would now have one presenter.

Mr Robertson confirmed his decision to shocked colleagues at BBC Scotland news in an e-mail on Friday evening after the programme ended.

Speaking at the end of his last Reporting Scotland, he said: "After 20 years at the BBC, eight of them presenting Reporting Scotland, it's my final programme. It has been a privilege."

'High standards'

A spokesman for BBC Scotland confirmed that Reporting Scotland would be presented by a single presenter from 29 September.

"The change will bring BBC Scotland's flagship news programme in line with the main BBC news bulletins at 6pm and 10pm and will reduce the number of presenters on the Reporting Scotland roster", he added.

"We would like to thank David for the high standards and professionalism he has maintained during his time on Reporting Scotland and we wish him all the best for the future."
