Gail Sheridan charged with theft

Gail Sheridan was suspended by British Airways over the alleged theft of miniature bottles of alcohol.

Mrs Sheridan, 44, was charged with perjury on Tuesday in connection with the defamation case her husband won against the News of the World in 2006.

The Sheridans' Glasgow home was searched as part of the investigation.

Mrs Sheridan, who has worked for BA for 23 years, is understood to have been suspended on Friday morning.

'Charged with perjury'

BA is believed to have taken action after being contacted by Lothian and Borders Police, who had carried out the search at the Sheridans' home in December.

A legal source told the BBC that Mrs Sheridan denied any allegations of wrongdoing.

Mrs Sheridan, her husband and five others have been charged with perjury over Mr Sheridan's defamation action against the Sunday tabloid.

Mr Sheridan, a former MSP who left the Scottish Socialists to set up Solidarity, was awarded £200,000 damages over the paper's claims that he was a serial adulterer and swinger who used drugs.

Mrs Sheridan told the court that her husband "would be in the Clyde with a piece of concrete tied round him" if she thought there was any truth to the allegations.
