Mugging victim, 84, dies in hospital

Catherine McKenzie was attacked near her home in Cartcraigs Road in the Pollokshaws area of Glasgow as she returned from the shops.

She was pushed to the ground by a man who grabbed her bag, leaving her with a broken pelvis and broken arm.

He escaped with just a few items of shopping and what police said was a two figure sum of cash.

Strathclyde Police, on Saturday, said they were treating the death as suspicious but were waiting for the results of a post-mortem examination tomorrow before deciding if they will launch a murder hunt.

The pensioner died in Glasgow's Victoria Infirmary where she had been treated since the mugging on Wednesday.

Her attacker, described as aged 16 to 23, 5ft 10in, slimly built with short fair hair and a yellow top and blue jeans is being hunted by police who have urged witnesses to contact them on 0141 532 4900.
