Two die in separate road crashes

Accident sign Two people have lost their lives in separate road crashes within hours of each other, police have said.

At about 1725 GMT on Friday, a 17-year-old man's car collided with a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old woman on Strathaven Road, Lanarkshire.

The man died of his injuries, while the woman suffered multiple fractures.

In the second incident, a 55-year-old woman died after being struck by a van on Beil Drive, in Glasgow's Yoker area, at 0110 GMT on Saturday.

Strathclyde Police said she was taken by ambulance to the city's Western Infirmary, but died of her injuries at 0525 GMT on Saturday. The van driver was unhurt.
