Four families are about to move a step closer to their dream of island life when they are shortlisted to live on the Fair Isle, off Shetland.
National Trust for Scotland officials were surprised when 800 people answered an advert for families to live there.
That number was whittled down to seven families at the beginning of the month and is due to be reduced further.
A trust spokesman said there were two vacant crofts which he hoped would be allocated by May of this year.
Fair Isle has just 70 inhabitants. It is only three miles long and is one of the UK's most inaccessible islands.
It is best known for its knitwear and vast seabird colonies.
