Search to resume once river drops

River in spate The search for a man reported missing in bad weather in the north of Scotland will resume once flood waters subside.

Grampian Police said diving teams would search the River Findhorn near Forres after reports that Andrew MacDonald had been swept away on Saturday.

Officers joined Aberdeen Coastguard in an unsuccessful shoreline search on Monday.

Police said a man seen in the river matched the description of 42-year-old Mr MacDonald, from Forres.

Mr MacDonald had been reported missing to police.

Bleak outlook

The search took place as some areas of Scotland counted the cost of the weekend's heavy rain and high winds, which led to flooding and travel disruption.

Police were told on Saturday morning that a man had been seen in trouble in the River Findhorn.

Officers began a search and coastguard teams and a helicopter from Royal Air Force Lossiemouth were also called in.

However, there was no trace of the man and a spokesman said: "We still have people looking for him but the search has been scaled down. Unfortunately it does not look good."
